About Catalog Licenses

Jamendo boasts a Licensign Catalog of more than 220.000 royalty-free tracks for your projects. We offer different licenses types and your choice will defined by the broadcast scope of your project.

Royalty-free music isn't free.
The term "royalty-free" in music signifies that, although you must purchase a license to use the music, there are no ongoing royalty fees required after that purchase.

Catalog License Types

Find out which License Type is the right one for you.
At Jamendo Licensing, we currently offer the following license types:

Catalog Licenses Terms

While each license type is governed by distinct terms and conditions, certain provisions are universally applicable across all license types:

One Catalog License grants the rights of synchronization of one track

  • Synchronization involves the precise coordination of a track with another element, for instance, when the audio track is aligned with the video, allowing both to play in unison.
  • The track must be used in a synchronized form with other content (e.g. other audio content, video, images, website, public performance).
  • The communication of the track to the public without synchronization is prohibited.

One Catalog license allows the synchronization of one track with one project

  • A project refers to a unique piece of audio, audiovisual, or multimedia content (like a single video, an audio spot, a video game, or a mobile application).
  • One license allows the synchronization of one track with one project. For the use of a track in two projects, two licenses are thus required.
  • One exception to the project definition exists with the Standard license.

The Catalog license grants the right of reproduction and communication to the public

  • The Catalog license grants you the right to reproduce and publicly communicate the project linked to the synchronized track.
  • The scope of reproduction and communication is defined differently for each license type.

The Catalog license is perpetual

  • The Catalog license has no date of expiration and does not require renewal.
  • The license has perpetual validity for the project to which the track is synchronized.

The Catalog license is non-exclusive

  • Other customers can buy a license for the same track.

The Catalog license is transferable

  • You can transfer the license rights to the completed project to a third party (e.g. your client).
  • The third-party (e.g. your client) then receives the right to reproduce and communicate the final project, synchronized with the track, to the public.
  • The third-party does not have other rights to use the track. They can not extract the track from the project.

The Catalog license cannot be sub-licensed

  • You cannot sell the rights to the license to a third or more party.

The Catalog license can be upgraded

  • In the beginning, a simpler license could meet the necessary rights for your project. Should the project later be shared through multiple channels or reach a wider audience (check the stipulations of each license), you might need to obtain a more advanced license. In such a case we can upgrade your license, invoicing only the difference between the two licenses.
